Denver Airport fined USD35 million for aircraft noise violations
A judge has ordered Denver International Airport to pay $33.5 million for noise violations.
The judge ruled the airport failed to monitor aircraft noise and violated an agreement with Adams County dating back decades.
It relates to noise violations over a three-year period from 2014.
The county had argued that the airport relied on an outdated noise monitoring system rather than real noise measurements.
The county and the cities of Thornton, Aurora and Brighton sued the airport in 2018.
"We get complaints about noise all the time. It was hard for us to validate some of those complaints in the past," said Adams County commissioner Steve O’Dorisio.
The trial found a total of 67 noise violations and the judge awarded $500,000 per violation.
