WTTC launches Hotel Sustainability Basics
The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) launched the Hotel Sustainability Basics.
Known as Basics, it was announced at ITB Berlin
The industry-backed hotel sustainability scheme has a globally recognised set of criteria that hotels should implement as a minimum.
Basics focuses on an achievable starting point for businesses of any size.
Made up of 12 key criteria, Basics is a stepping-stone to more complex sustainability schemes.
It has been recognised by the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance.
WTTC partnered with Green Key and SGS to develop a simple online verification system.
The verification scheme enables hotels to be officially verified.
They must meet eight of the 12 criteria in the first year and all 12 by year three.
Six major international hotel groups have now joined Basics as inaugural partners.
They are Accor, Jin Jiang, Louvre Hotels, Meliá International, Meininger, and Radisson.
