$1 bus trip akin to flying cheap airlines
The $1 good news: That amount buys a one-way bus trip from St. Louis to Chicago.
Megabus.com, operated by a subsidiary of Coach USA, next month will add several other Midwest cities. All seats will start at one dollar.
The concept is similar to discount airlines offering $39 tickets, said Dale Moser, president and chief operating officer of Coach USA.
Five to ten of the bus’s 55 seats will go for $1. The average ticket prices will be about $10 or $12, which is probably less than the cost of gas.
The buses have cloth seats that recline, arm rests and small television monitors.
There’s also a restroom on board. The St. Louis-Chicago ride takes about five hours.
The new bus service has Miss USA Chelsea Cooley as their spokesperson.
