430 reported ill on Mediterranean cruise
Hundreds of British holidaymakers have reportedly been taken ill on board a luxury cruise in the Mediterranean.
The Daily Mail today reports that 430 passengers out of 1,900 on board P&O’s liner the Aurora have been struck down with a virulent stomach bug, 11 days after the trip left Southampton.
The newspaper reports that the ship was due to dock at the Greek port of Piraeus today, but that authorities have banned people from leaving the liner in case they have the feared Norwalk virus, which can leave sufferers contagious for up to a week.
The Mail states that the outbreak was first reported after the ship docked at Venice, and that Croatian authorities refused to let sick passengers disembark when the Aurora was in Dubrovnik.
Trips on the Aurora, the Daily Mail reports, cost between GBP3,000 and GBP8,000 per week, depending on the class of accommodation chosen.
