A Best Western ordered to close
Local media in Bali has reported that the regent (mayor) of Bandung has ordered the closure of The Best Western Hotel, Kuta.
A letter ordering the closure within seven days was delivered to the hotel’s owner by enforcement officials last week, according to Bali Update (www.balidiscovery.com)
The hotel opened with 111-rooms in 2009 on the site of a smaller, family-owned property.
The owner upgraded and expanded the business into a modern hotel, but applications for a building permit were rejected by regency officials on the basis of a 1995 zoning law, which specifically forbade multiple-unit accommodation in the area occupied by the hotel.
Regency officials claim the owner persisted in building the hotel without a prior building permit or the mandatory operating licences.
