AAA: record 122 million to travel for the holidays
The AAA is forecasting a record 122.4 million Americans will travel this holiday season between December 20 to January 1.
This would represent a 2.2% increase over last year’s record high.
The vast majority – more than 100 million – will travel by car, while over 8 million are expected to fly, up 2.3% on last year.
Airline tickets average nearly $900 this year, up 7% compared to last year.
Additionally, nearly 5 million will travel by bus or train, or take a festive cruise vacation.
The top 10 US destinations are Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Los Angeles/Anaheim and Honolulu, the AAA says.
Cancun, Punta Cana and Cozumel are among the top international destinations.
