ABTA welcomes extra-long Bank Holiday for 2012
ABTA has welcomed confirmation from Downing Street that there will be an extended Bank Holiday next year to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, claiming that it will boost bookings.
The Association said the extra-long weekend for the royal wedding last month was beneficial for the whole country and called on the Government to add more, permanent, Bank Holidays.
The extended holiday has been created around the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year by postponing the Whitsun Bank Holiday, which is usually in late May, until Monday June 4 and by adding an extra day’s holiday on Tuesday, June 5.
The Government’s plan will mean that Britons will be able to take a nine-day holiday by only taking three days off work.
London is also expecting to benefit from an influx of tourists eager to participate in the Jubilee celebrations, which will include a flotilla of more than 1,000 boats along the River Thames on June 3.
