Accor raises funds for earthquake victims

Wednesday, 25 Feb, 2011 0

Accor Hotels will donate NZ$2 for every room sold at its 37 hotels and resorts across New Zealand until March 31 to raise urgent funds in aid of the Christchurch earthquake relief effort.

Vice president for Accor Hotels New Zealand, Paul Richardson, said, “It’s important to note that this is not a guest levy but a direct donation being contributed by each hotel, and we hope to raise in excess of NZ$210,000.

“We encourage travellers and our tourism industry partners to help us help the people of Christchurch as they face what will be a highly emotional and challenging recovery period in the coming weeks.”

Accor has 37 hotels across the North and South Islands in New Zealand, with a range of brands to choose from including Ibis, Mercure, All Seasons, Novotel, Grand Mercure, MGallery, Sofitel and the new five-star Pullman Auckland.

Accor is currently working with its business events industry partners and conference organisers who have immediate needs to relocate their meetings and accommodation as required to alternate destinations in New Zealand.

To date Accor is assisting with the movement of two upcoming events from its hotels in Christchurch to Auckland and Wellington.

Currently, three of Accor’s hotels in Christchurch are closed, while one hotel – All Seasons Christchurch in Papanui Rd – has very limited accommodation open, but exclusively for emergency workers.

Decisions on the other three hotels will only be made after a full examination and assessment by engineers and the emergency authorities.

For further queries relating to Meetings & Events for current and future bookings at the four Accor Christchurch hotels, conference organisers can contact Lee Watkins, sales manager – meetings & events on +64 9 306 0580 or Mobile: +64 274 7000 38 ([email protected])
