ACTA adds voice to industry concern over Marriott commission cut

Thursday, 29 Jan, 2018 0

The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) has weighed in on Marriott International’s plan to slash commissions for group and meetings bookings.

Last week the company announced the current 10% commission rate would drop to 7% effective March 31, 2018 for bookings for US and Canadian hotels.

"ACTA shares the frustration of our members with Marriott’s decision to reduce travel agency commissions by 3% on group bookings within their Canadian and USA hotels and resorts. ACTA has been in contact with Marriott directly to express our concerns, and let them know we oppose this decision," said ACTA president Wendy Paradis.

"Travel Agencies play a vital role in the group travel business and we are disappointed that Marriott has chosen to find cost savings through travel agency commission reductions. ACTA will continue to actively lobby for our travel agency members over the coming weeks towards a win/win solution with Marriott. "

This echoes comments made by ASTA last week which is also seeking urgent talks with Marriott ‘toward ensuring positive business outcomes for all involved.’
