Active Hotels Secures Deal with Lycos UK

Friday, 24 Jul, 2003 0

Cambridge, UK, 24th July – Active Hotels, the leading provider of online reservations to the European hotel industry, has today signed a deal to provide hotel information and real-time reservation capabilities for Lycos UK.

Lycos UK is part of Lycos Europe, one of Europe’s leading Internet portals which has a presence in 10 European countries. The deal means that Active Hotels’ partner hotels and guesthouses throughout the UK and Europe will have even greater visibility online, reaching an audience of over 1.2 million potential customers globally.

Andrew Phillipps, CEO, Active Hotels comments, “Forrester Research has predicted that online hotel bookings will double in the next four years from $6.9 billion this year to $14.7 billion, making travel the number one activity for Internet lookers and bookers. We are delighted, therefore, to forge a partnership with one of the leading internet companies in the world.

“As online booking volumes continue to rise, our partner websites are realising real benefits in terms of commission earnings. In fact they have already seen over a 120% rise in commission earnings since the start of 2003,” says Phillipps.

Alex Kovach, Managing Director of Lycos UK, says, “We selected Active Hotels because of their strength in the UK hotel market. They are offering us a comprehensive selection of hotels across the country, both in the major cities and in the sought-after regional areas. With the majority of UK holiday-makers opting to holiday at home this year, there is no doubt that Lycos will benefit from the growing demand for real-time online reservations delivered by Active Hotels.”
