Advantage says agents must get tough with cruise lines
Advantage Travel Centres admitted today it was urging members to support cruise lines that continue to offer the highest commission to avoid more of them following the lead of Complete Cruise Solution in cutting base rates.
Leisure services director Julia Lo Bue-Said said today’s announcement by Norwegian Cruise Line’s that it was following Royal Caribbean’s move last week in slashing its base commission to 10% from January was the final straw for agents.
Although Bue-Said appeared relieved last week that Royal Caribbean had stuck at 10% and not gone as low as CCS, which cut rates to 5% last year, she said news that Norwegian was also cutting its commission had prompted Advantage to take a tougher stance.
The consortium has now joined forces with The Travel Network Group to encourage members to switch sell to other cruise lines.
"This is purely down to Norwegian Cruise Line a week later going down the same route," she said.
