Agency boss among new trustees named for The Travel Foundation
The Co-operative Travel managing director Mike Greenacre has become a trustee of The Travel Foundation, along with Steve Allen of Wexas International and Guyonne James of Tourism Concern.
Greenacre will also join the fundraising strategy group within the finance and audit sub-committee, working to increase the sustainable tourism charity’s income.
Allen will also join the finance committee, while James will join the charity’s activities committee.
They join The Travel Foundation chairman Roger Heape, former boss of British Airways Holidays, and trustees, including managing director of TUI UK Dermot Blastland, John de Vial, a director of Thomas Cook, and Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA.
The charity is funding projects including two in Kenya, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, Cyprus, the Gambia, Tobago, and the Dominican Republic, as well as ongoing research into reduce the carbon footprint of holidays.
Greenacre said: “If the travel industry wants to have a future it has to invest in sustainable tourism. The Travel Foundation is leading the way.
“The Co-operative Travel is the only UK agent with a clearly-defined ethical strategy and we were the first major travel retailer to oppose the planned third runway at Heathrow.
“We are also proud to support The Travel Foundation’s excellent work and already help fund them by asking our customers for a £1 donation to them when they go abroad.”
