Agents must indicate availability on special offers
Travel agents have been warned to word adverts more carefully following consumer complaints concerning an Expedia offer.
The warning has come from the Committee of Advertising Practice (CAP), which is asking UK agents to make it clear when advertised prices have limited availability. The warning follows a ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over an Expedia advert.
Consumers contacted ASA to complain that they couldn?t book the special offer at the advertised price because of limited availability.
In a statement, CAP said: ?The ASA upheld the complaints because neither advertisement had made it clear that availability at the ?from? price was extremely limited.?
CAP wants written assurance from agents that they will adhere to its advertising guidelines in future. ABTA is also advising its members to take note of the advice.
