Agents targeted for French roadshows
The French Government Tourist Office is doubling the number of trade roadshows this autumn after the success of last year’s events.
The roadshows will run in two waves on October 5-7 in London, Birmingham and Manchester co-sponsored by Air France and on October 19-21 in Oxford, Southampton and Bristol, co-sponsored by Rail Europe. Attendance at each event is limited to 120 agents.
The aim of the roadshows is to boost travel agents’ confidence when dealing with France, often regarded as a daunting country to sell because of its size and diversity, according to the tourist office.
Head of trade and exhibitions Jane Dawkins said: “Bookings to France through the trade currently account for about one third of UK visitors so there is plenty of scope for growth. Despite the increase in direct and online reservations, people still look to their high street travel agent for destination information.
“Our role is to ensure that the trade has all the product knowledge it needs to be able to market the destination and the roadshows are part of that process.”
Companies supporting the roadshows include Cresta, Holiday Options, Accor, Ski France International, Flybe, Brittany Ferries and regional tourist boards from France.
Agents interested in attending should telephone 0870 7238 238.
