Agents urged to capitalize on falling cruise prices
US travel agents are more effective sellers than ever but they should capitalize now on the fall as a time to find last-minute space and special arrangements for their clients, urges Joel M. Abels.
One particularly promising area: fall cruises in the Caribbean where sales and rates are down in part due to hurricane worries.
“I would take the bull by the horns and state emphatically that because last year was a freak season weather-wise, vacationers this year will have the benefit of lowered rates,” he wrote in Travel Trade. He suggests agents don’t scare tourists away from the weather but show them the advantages of the fall season. “One thing I know for sure is that cruise ships know how to literally sail away from hurricanes and storms of all sorts,” said Mr Abels.
But fall prices are right not only in cruises but also in Europe and other destinations, he wrote.
