Air France-KLM hikes fares for sustainable flights

Air France-KLM fliers will soon have to dig deeper to go green. The airline is adding a biofuel surcharge of up to €12 to offset more expensive sustainable aviation fuel.

Economy class travellers will pay €1-4 more while business class fliers pay up €12, depending on the flight duration.

Partner KLM and LCC subsidiary Transavia will also implement the green surcharge. Conventional jet fuel accounts for up to 30% of airlines’ costs while sustainable aviation fuel can be significantly more expensive.
