Air France to resume flights to ebola-hit Sierra Leone
Air France is to resume services to Sierra Leone next month, while British Airways’ flights to the country remain suspended.
Both carriers temporarily halted services to the country last August following an outbreak of ebola which killed thousands in West Africa.
BA also halted flights to Liberia.
Air France said it will resume flights to the capital Freetown next month, when it will offer three flights a week from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport on an Airbus A330.
The airline said: "This re-launch confirms Air France’s commitment to the economic development of Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone has a strong mining industry, is among the top ten diamond producers in the world and has excellent potential for tourism."
A message on BA’s website said services to Freetown are suspended ‘until further notice due to the public health situation in the country’.
The UK Foreign Office is continuing to warn against all but essential travel to Sierra Leone, except for those involved in the direct response to the ebola outbreak.
In its last travel advisory update, on April 9, it said: "Although the number of confirmed new cases in Sierra Leone is declining, ebola continues to spread within communities."
