Air India increases UK, Europe bag fees
Flag carrier Air India has raised some baggage fees on long haul flights to the UK and Europe.
It affects passengers with a second checked bag.
The airline says the new fees are in line with many other international carriers.
The change is part of its rebranded ‘fare families’ which were rolled out last month.
The ‘Value’ fare option offers one piece of checked baggage up to 23kg.
For a second checked bag, passenger must book a ‘Classic’ or ‘Flex’ fare, starting from around an extra INR4,000 per one-way journey.
As well as the increased baggage allowance, these fares offer more flexibility.
The ‘value” fare is available only for economy class.
Air India currently flies 264 times a week between India, the UK and Europe.
The change is a conscious move away from the traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach, the airline says.
