Air NZ backs new Queenstown marathon
Air New Zealand will be the naming rights sponsor for one of New Zealand’s newest international sporting events – the Queenstown International Marathon.
The inaugural marathon, taking place November 22, will encourage both domestic and international tourism to the region.
Air New Zealand chief commercial officer Cam Wallace said the three year sponsorship agreement for the event had significant potential to put the region firmly on the ‘must do’ marathon map.
The airline will provide marketing support through a range of communication channels.
Dave Beeche, CEO of marathon organiser Lagardere Unlimited Oceania, said the partnership would provide a great up-front promotional boost to accelerate the growth of the event.
"Air New Zealand really understands what this type of sporting event can bring to a region," he said.
Set between the backdrop of the Crown and Remarkable Mountain Ranges, the course track is 60% hard packed smooth trail and 40% road and will start at Millbrook Resort in Arrowtown.
The event encourages participation by people of all ages and ability by also having 21km, 10km and 3km options.
