AirAsia launching new Phuket-Phnom Penh route
Thai AirAsia will start a new route linking holiday isle Phuket and Cambodian capital Phnom Penh from June 1.
The route will operate four times a week on Airbus A320 aircraft.
It complements the airline’s existing route out of Phuket to Siem Reap.
"Phuket is a strategic flight base for AirAsia that has grown steadily along with the addition of direct flights to CLMV cities such as Siem Reap," said Thai AirAsia CEO Santisuk Klongchaiya.
"With the positive response, we decided to add Phuket-Phnom Penh, connecting the Thai resort town to Cambodia’s capital."
Santisuk expects the route to attract a high proportion of business travellers.
Tourism in Cambodia is on the up with arrivals by air up by 20% year-on-year to 10.5 million, according to data from Cambodia Airports.
The flight launch is being promoted with introductory fares of THB990 one-way ex Phuket.
