Airline industry’s latest: sell ads on barf bags

Saturday, 19 Jul, 2006 0

In what might be termed the latest queasy development in the airline industry, US Airways says it plans to sell advertisements on its air-sickness bags.

“They’re in every back seat pocket. We figure while it’s there, why don’t we make it multi-purpose,” said US Airways spokesman Phil Gee.

US Air’s partner, America West, has become known for its attempts to get more profits from sales. American West had the first ads on tray tables, and the first in-flight meals for sale.

Who would advertise on the bags is not known but speculation was motion sickness medications might be at the top of the list.

“If skateboarders can sell ad space on their t-shirts, I guess why can’t an airline sell ads on barf bags?” Nathan Vierra, a student, told the Associated Press.
