Airline shares pick up
Travel and tourism shares experienced mixed fortunes yesterday as London’s equity market registered small gains. The FTSE 100 index added 28.6 points to end the day at 4655.2, while the FTSE 250 had an equally positive session, gaining 36.8 points to close at 6289.7. Airlines enjoyed the best fortunes as oil prices eased: British Airways gained 6.25p to close at 206.75p; easyJet put on 3.25p for a 125.5p finish; and Ryanair ended the day at 260.8p, up 3.54p. The Guardian reports that, once again, rumours of a buy-out by Stelios Haji-Ioannou could have helped easyJet’s share price.
