Airlines ready to charge you for…gasp…personally buying a ticket

Tuesday, 06 Jan, 2011 0

What new fees might the airlines introduce the new year with? How about a penalty for checking in personally? Or using a credit card?

“Last year, US Airways said it if hadn’t been for its fees, the airline wouldn’t have had a profit. Poor babies,” comments the Baltimore Sun.

The newspaper interviewed George Hobica, founder of Airlinewatchdog.com. His list of possible new fees this year included:

—Infants.

—Checked bag fees by the pound.

—Name changes.

—Internet convenience fees.

And, of course, carry-on bags.

One blogger’s response:

“So now they’re not only gig you for trying to subvert the checked baggage fee by charging a carry on fee, but they’re going to charge you a fee for checking in in person OR they’re going to charge you a ‘convenience’ fee for checking in online (apparently). You’re going to pay a fee for everything no matter what you try to do to avoid it. And airlines wonder why they’re hated.”
