Airlines to come clean on delays
The US Transportation Department has ruled that airlines must provide more information on the cause of certain airline delays and cancellations.
The new rule comes into effect from June 1 and after that time the airlines must classify the causes of cancellations and delays of five minutes or more into different categories.
The problems must relate to the airline; weather; national aviation system; security; or late arriving aircraft.
The airlines will have to file their reports within 15 days of the end of the month.
The data will be shared with airport personnel and will also be made public.
