Alaska Airlines offers change fee, cancellation waivers
Alaska Airlines is dropping its regular change and cancellation fees for the next two weeks in response to travelers’ COVID-19 virus concerns.
For customers’ ‘peace of mind’ it is suspending charges for ticket changes and cancellation fees for new bookings through March 12, 2020.
It is applicable for all tickets including the cheapest Saver fares.
"Every day seems to bring new developments related to the coronavirus, and the uncertainty of the disease is unsettling. We’ll suspend change and cancellation fees for new flight bookings for our guests who later decide not to travel" the airline said.
Customers who decide to cancel a trip will get a full travel credit to fly for up to one year later.
It follows a similar move last week by JetBlue Airways.
In addition Alaska Airlines is changing some aspects of its in-flight service to ensure items such as cups and bottles do not touch each other between passengers.
It is also enhancing its aircraft disinfecting operations with guidance from the CDC.
