Allegiant Air in-flight magazine to display marijuana ads
Allegiant Air is becoming the first major airline to display ads for marijuana in its in-flight magazine.
The airline’s Sunseeker magazine will contain a full page ad from Acres Cannabis, a recently established Las Vegas pot dispensary, the Las Vegas Sun reports.
"The campaign creates another first for the marijuana industry and helps propel all of us toward mainstream acceptance," company CEO John Mueller said.
The ad will run through October.
Although pot use is now legal in Nevada, it is forbidden by federal law in airports and on aircraft, and Las vegas authorities recently announced they intend to ban any marijuana ads at McCarran International Airport.
Still, Allegiant Air foresees no problems ahead by running the ad.
"We are a publisher, and they are an advertiser. The decision to allow Acres Cannabis to advertise in Sunseeker comes with no endorsement of the company or its products," said airline spokeswoman Krysta Levy.
