A record 14,860 travel agents completed online cruise training courses run by the Association of Cruise Experts last year.
ACE has significantly increased the number of online training opportunities available to agents, particularly in destinations, where an additional 18 modules have been introduced.
Along with online training, more than 2,000 travel agents attended Cruise Expos, direct training and made ship visits.
The ACE website has also gained in popularity with 32,801 visits with an average time spent on the site of 12 minutes in the last quarter of 2008 compared with 12,658 visits and an average time on the site of five minutes in the same period in 2007.
ACE director Andy Harmer said: “I am delighted the online training has proved so popular. I believe its success is a result of agents wanting to make that extra effort in becoming experts in selling cruise so they are able to provide their customers with the best possible advice and guidance.
“We are introducing new training opportunities in 2009 and the ACE UK Cruise Convention, which takes place in June, will also provide a platform for further learning.”
*To assist agents during the peak Wave selling period, TravelMole will have a special focus on cruise for a month starting on Monday with dedicated content and opinion.
