Amazon introduces Alexa for hotels, teams up with Marriott

Friday, 20 Jun, 2018 0

Amazon wants travelers to tap Alexa as their own personal butler while on vacation.

Alexa’s voice-controlled device Echo will serve guests’ requests with the new Alexa for hospitality service.

It has partnered with Marriott International to help streamline guest access to amenities.

Alexa for hospitality in-room devices would help guests with voice activated ordering of room service, requesting housekeeping or hands-free calling the concierge desk.

The Marriott partnership begins this summer at select properties

Alexa for hospitality will also let guests access their own personal Amazon accounts during a stay so they can listen to their personal music or audio book collections.

Access to an individual account is automatically blocked on check out.

It will be able to control lights, heating thermostats, and TVs in rooms, Amazon said.

"So many of our guests use voice technology in their home and we want to extend that convenience to their travel experience," said Jennifer Hsieh, vice president of customer experience innovation at Marriott.

"We will be evaluating guest feedback and adoption to inform how we expand the skills, features, and functionality offered through Alexa in our hotels."

Selected Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels and Resorts, St Regis Hotels and Resorts, and Autograph Collection Hotels will be among the first to get the in-room voice-controlled devices.
