American, Delta follow United in scrapping flight change fees

Monday, 01 Sep, 2020 0

Change is in the air in the US airline industry.

Days after United pledged to eliminate change fees for good for domestic flights, American Airlines and Delta are following suit.

American said that ‘change fees for all domestic and short-haul international flying will be eliminated.’

It is valid for flights within North American including the US and Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Delta is removing the fee for domestic flights including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

This week United said it won’t impose change fees on standard economy and premium cabin tickets and will offer free same-day standby and flight changes.

However any fare difference applicable is still payable.

The change fee has been one of the policies most hated by customers which can cost $200 per change or more.

Other airlines except for Southwest Airlines impose change fees, although these are currently waived until the end of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

That means the policy changes made by United, Delta and American effectively begin immediately.
