American: lowest fare guarantee
American Airlines began offering a “lowest-fare guarantee” for tickets bought on its Web site.
The carrier will give $50 travel vouchers to customers who buy their tickets at AA.com and then find the same flight for at least $5 less on another travel site, according to the carrier.
The airline will refund the difference in price. The lower fare also must have the same rules and restrictions to be eligible for the guarantee.
Northwest and Continental have started similar guarantees.
“We’re trying to get to the point where the customer’s confident they don’t need to shop around for AA fares,” Dan Garton, American’s executive vice president of marketing, told The Wall Street Journal.
The guarantee applies only to domestic travel and doesn’t cover fares that are part of packages or on opaque sites.
