American offers bonus for NY frequent fliers
American Airlines is giving an extra 1,000 bonus miles on new flights from New York La Guardia beginning April.
A total of 10 new routes will be eligible for the extra miles, all part of schedule changes required by the Justice Department in the wake of American’s merger with US Airways.
The American Eagle operated flights begin April 1 to Charlottesville, Dayton, Ohio, Greensboro, Knoxville, Little Rock, Louisville, Norfolk, Richmond, Roanoke, and Wilmington.
Existing AAdvantage members must register in advance to claim the bonus miles valid for flights through June 30.
This is move designed to protect American’s market share of the lucrative frequent flyer segment amid big changes taking place at the moment.
Delta Air Lines recently announced a radical change to its loyalty program, moving to a rewards system calculated on dollars spent rather than miles flown.
JetBlue also this week announced its clear intention to woo frequent business travelers with its ‘Mosaic Challenge’ – offering a fast track route to the top tier of its loyalty program.
