American Airlines could revive plans for a joint venture with Qantas Airways now that Donald Trump is in the Oval Office.
The Trump Administration has pledged to cut regulation across many industries including anti-trust rules to help business.
The American-Qantas JV was rejected by the US Transportation Department in November over competition concerns after Hawaiian Airlines and JetBlue filed objections.
It had already been approved by regulators in Australia and New Zeakand.
The alliance would have given the JV about 60% market share on US-Australia routes.
"What we need to do is work out the implications, which we are still working through and then talk about what we will do and review our options with the Trump administration," Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told Reuters.
