Angelini, Klein in surprise exits
SINGAPORE – There have been some major moves in the hotel world.
Shangri-La Asia has appointed Madhu Rao managing director and chief executive officer of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, and Greg Dogan as chief operating officer.
Rao replaces Giovanni Angelini, who has relinquished his responsibilities on medical grounds.
Angelini remains an executive director of Shangri-La Asia Ltd and a member of the executive committee of its board of directors.
Rao has more than 20 years experience with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. He was appointed chief financial officer of Shangri-La Asia Limited in 1997 and continues to hold that position.
Prior to joining Shangri-La in 1997, Dogan held senior managerial positions at luxury hotels in Spain, Dubai and China.
Meanwhile, Hilton Hotels Corp president Asia-Pacific, Koos Klein, has decided to quit the company and settle in Sydney, where his two sons are studying.
Klein has headed HHC in Asia-Pacific for 10 years and was recently named Hotelier of the Year by Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels.
Hilton will find a new area president (Asia-Pacific operations) before Klein leaves in the next few months.
