ARC: travel agency flight ticket sales up seven percent in 2018
Airlines Reporting Corp recorded a 7.1% uptick in the value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies in 2018.
Ticket sales revenue reached nearly $95 billion compared to $88.5 billion in 2017.
The average round-trip ticket price was up slightly to $490.
The total number of domestic passenger trips settled by ARC on behalf of the nation’s agents was up slightly while international passenger trips grew significantly more by 7.3%.
"ARC-accredited travel agencies and advisors are chosen millions of times year-in and year out by customers to support their air travel purchases," said ARC president and CEO Mike Premo.
ARC said electronic miscellaneous document (EMD) sales totaled $78 million, although there was a slight decrease in the number of overall EMD transactions.
"Travel advisors and agencies play a critical role in our country’s commercial aviation system and the broader travel and tourism industry," said ASTA CEO Zane Kerby.
