ASTA agents upbeat on 2014 prospects
The American Society of Travel Agents has unveiled results from its most recent member survey showing over half of polled agents enjoyed increases in revenue, and transaction and client volume.
The survey found 55% of travel agencies reported increased revenue in 2013, 53% increased the number of transactions, and 55% dealt with more clients than the year before.
ASTA CEO Zane Kerby said there was a positive sentiment among agents of expanding business further during 2014.
The results from 449 ASTA members mark an upward trend in performance over the last two years, ASTA said.
Almost two-thirds of agents posted a profit in 2013, with average profits of 8% on total revenue.
ASTA found just 4% of corporate agencies were in the red in 2013.
Looking ahead, retail agents have forecast an 11% profit for 2014 and independent agents a 13% profit.
Agents said there were increases in sales in every travel segment with tour and group bookings strong, and insurance sales up at 47% of respondents.
Cruise bookings also did well with 44% of agents reporting higher volumes.
