ASTA relaunches consumer website

The American Society of Travel Agents has launched a new website aimed at consumers.

ASTA hopes the new site, www.TravelSense.org will drive more bookings to agents. The new site is one of a raft of new initiatives announced at its annual congress this week. The new site will feature the consumer content that was previously on www.ASTAnet.com such as “Request a Trip” along with travel articles, tips and survey information. More new features are due to be added next year.

ASTA president and chief executive Richard Copland said: “The trends tell us that more consumers are booking travel online and suppliers are offering ways to book direct. ASTA wants to maintain a larger consumer presence on the Internet. We think TravelSense.org is a great way to lead consumers who love to travel directly to the travel agents who would love to book their travel.”

ASTA says that up until now the “Request a Trip” section, hosted on its ASTAnet.com site, typically received around 200 to 300 consumer requests each month. These can only be replied to by ASTA travel agents.
