Australia lowers Japan travel advice
The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Smarttraveller.gov.au has lowered the travel advice for Japan overall to level 1 (Be alert to own security)
In addition, the level 3 advice is now limited to coastal areas of northern Honshu affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
Only the area within a 80km radius of Fukushima nuclear power plants is at a ‘Do not travel’ (level 5) level.
JNTO’s Japan Travel Updates earthquake site is still active and contains useful information including Japan Now on Video (messages from Japan post-earthquake), attractions and events, including festival information.
All major airports are in normal operation, all shinkansen (bullet train) lines are restored (operating on a temporary timetable) and all expressways open save for the area of Joban Expressway within a 30.2km radius of the power plant.
The Visit Japan 2011 Campaign was launched this week.
The revamped site features video messages of appreciation and hope from Japanese people as well as information on travelling to Japan and touring the country.
