Aviation tech solutions firm SITA has named long-serving Sumesh Patel as new president – Asia Pacific.

Patel moves up from the position of vice president of business management, Asia Pacific and replaces Ilya Gutlin, who becomes president for the global air travel solutions unit.

Gutlin will head up a global team comprising hundreds of software developers tasked with designing and support of mission-critical systems.

"The Asia Pacific region has a strong role in the development of the air transport industry as airlines and airports look to technology to support the region’s fast growth. These two appointments solidify SITA’s dedication to the region and will ensure innovation and a keen focus on our customers," said Barbara Dalibard, CEO of SITA.

Patel began his SITA career as an engineer, and followed with leadership positions in sales and business development, then overseeing communications and airport portfolio strategy in Asia.

Based in Singapore, he is responsible for driving strategic direction for SITA in the region.

SITA’s technology solutions are used by airports and aviation services companies worldwide helping 1.3 billion people check-in and board flights.
