Royal Caribbean International has appointed an ex-car rental executive to head its UK operations.

Robin Shaw took up the role of UK & Ireland managing director this week in place of Patrick Ryan, who moved to become managing director of Island Cruises.

Mr Shaw was vice president fleet and operations before becoming fleet and operations director for France at Avis Europe, and before that he had a senior role at PepsiCo.

In his new role Mr Shaw will oversee the deployment in Southampton of Caribbean’s latest ship, Legend of the Seas, marking the cruise company’s debut into offering dedicated cruises from the UK. Legend of the Seas will offer cruises between May and October starting at £450. Next year the company takes delivery of another new ship, Freedom of the Seas, adding to its portfolio of 29.
