Avis predicts early booking trend

Sunday, 23 Aug, 2006 0

Avis is urging holidaymakers to book their rental car early to benefit from early booking discounts.

The car rental firm said customers are mistakenly thinking they will get better deals by booking on the day.

It is predicting a shift in the way consumers book their hire car, similar to the way people book airlines.

“We don’t expect the change in customer behaviour to be as rapid as we saw with the airline industry,” said Daniel McCarthy, Avis commercial director.

“But we do expect to see more customers booking car rental early and taking advantage of the convenience and monetary savings available to them.

“Avis likes to reward customers who commit to bookings in advance by giving them the best possible rental prices, sometimes saving as much as 15% below the standard price.

“Popular vehicles, such as MPVs or Cabriolets fly out of our stations especially at holiday times. During the busy months of July and August even booking a basic small car with air conditioning can be difficult at short notice.”
