BA and Travelport criticised for uncertainty
British Airways and Travelport have come under fire for causing traveller uncertainty after failing to keep its commercial deals private.
The deal between the airline and the GDS is due to expire today and BA has warned partners that it may withdraw its lowest fares from the system and levy a point-of-sale charge on short-haul economy fares if no agreement was reached.
But the Guild of Travel Management Companies has criticised the companies for conducting ‘what should be private commercial negotiations’ in public.
GTMC chief executive Paul Wait said: " All that happens is it causes corporate customers to reconsider plans and rebook passengers and all potentially at a cost, both in time and money.
"Far better if negotiations were kept private, with TMCs dealing with whatever is eventually announced as a confirmed agreement, rather than working on the premise of what might happen."
Travelport said in a letter on Friday: "We are optimistic that BA and Travelport will reach a new long-term agreement soon that meets the needs of all parties in the distribution value chain."
