BA flight in Schiphol emergency
A British Airways jet has made an unscheduled landing at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport because of a “specific threat”.
Two Dutch fighter jets are reported to have accompanied flight BA983 into the airport after crew on the flight, from Berlin to London, asked for a military escort.
The 118 passengers on board were taken of the plane as soon as it landed, at 12.56 UK time, and are currently being looked after by BA ground staff at Schiphol.
All baggage on board the plane is now to be removed and checked by security staff.
A spokeswoman told News From Abroad: “We can confirm that there was a specific security threat to the aircraft but at this stage we are not giving any more details.”
This the third security scare that has led to flights making unscheduled landings in less than a week; as reported, two Olympic Airlines flights have also been diverted after bomb scares.
