BA investigates allegations that pilot chucked phone out of cockpit window
A British Airways pilot faces possible disciplinary action after allegedly throwing a mobile phone out of his cockpit window just before take-off at Edinburgh Airport.
According to reports, an unclaimed mobile phone was found on board, but when the pilot was told he had to return to the gate to hand it in, he refused and chucked it out of the window.
The flight had already been delayed due to a local airshow in aid of Armed Forces Day.
The aircraft, on its way to Gatwick, was reportedly grounded on the runway for three hours after the incident while the pilot and his crew were removed and a replacement pilot was found.
The pilot was also questioned by the police.
In a statement, BA apologised to customers for the delay and said: “We are investigating the matter involving an unclaimed mobile phone left on the aircraft and speaking to the pilots to understand the exact circumstances around the whole incident.â€
