BA takes next step in bmi integration
British Airways will take over the selling of nine former bmi routes from May 23 as part of the integration of the airline.
Check out TravelMole’s homepage for a video interview with BA commercial director Drew Crawley where he reveals more about the integration.
In the latest step, the bmi code (BD) and flight number will be replaced with British Airways ones (BA) on routes from Heathrow to Bergen, Basel, Nice, Vienna, Stavangar, Hanover, Agadir, Marrakech and Casablanca.
The flight schedule, including time, date and terminal will remain the same.
BA said it has already advised travel agencies of the change and what they need to do to re-accommodate any customers with an affected bmi flight.
Customers who have booked directly with bmi will receive an email advising them of the new flight number.
For bookings made from today (May 10), BA’s baggage policies will apply to any BA coded flights taken after May 23. The airline will honour bmi’s checked baggage allowance for any customers who booked prior to today.
All other British Airways policies, including those relating to check-in times, medical clearance, children travelling alone, customers travelling when pregnant will apply to any bookings moved from a BD to BA code irrespective of when they were booked.
Customers with special travel requirements including medical issues are asked to contact BA to re-confirm details.
Customers due to fly on any bmi flight prior to May 23 or any route not included in the nine routes listed above after May 23 need take no action.
Further routes will be changed over to BA’s system in the coming weeks and customers will receive emails advising them of the change.
BA plans to integrate bmi routes for the start of the winter season, with the gradual transition of flights during the summer.
From today all bmi flights will also only be available for sale through BA, via ba.com or the airline’s call centres. Customers who have already booked a bmi flight will still be able to service their booking via flybmi.com.
