Bali disease outbreak under investigation
The Bali Hotels Association (BHA) says it takes reports of an outbreak of Legionnaires’ Disease “very seriously†and is supporting a full investigation being carried out by the Bali Health Department.
Chairman Jean-Charles Le Coz said BHA member hotels had been urged to conduct immediate tests on water systems, as well as increase spot checks, and to report back to the association.
“BHA is addressing the matter with the relevant local administrations and will continue to provide practical information on Legionella to all tourism stakeholders,†said Le Coz
Ten Australians are reported to have returned home with the disease.
Bali Health Department chief Nyoman Sutedja said so far no sign of the disease had been found.
However, he added. “We suspect that the disease came from hotels which failed to clean up their water supply.”
BHA members include general managers from around 100 hotels and resorts in Bali, representing more than 15,000 hotel rooms.
