Barbados hit by earthquake
Barbados was struck by an earthquake early yesterday, but the island appears not to have suffered any significant damage.
The magnitude 6.5 tremor was also felt as far away as Martinique and St Lucia.
The US Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a depth of 10.5 miles at 05:27 and was centered some 106 miles northeast of Bathsheba, Barbados.
The eastern Caribbean was last struck by a powerful earthquake in 2007, when a magnitude 7.4 quake centered just northwest of Martinique’s coastline severely damaged some buildings on the island.
