BA’s talking scrap, says Virgin

Virgin Atlantic has confirmed that it is to launch a poster campaign to keep Concorde flying. As reported, Virgin wants to fly Concorde planes once the legendary jet is retired by British Airways in October – but British Airways has stated that it will not sell the aircraft to Virgin and is has promised that the planes will end up in museums around the country.

Virgin’s posters, which the airline has vowed to put up “in BA’s heartland”, show a retired Air France Concorde with its engines and tail fin removed and bear the captions “BA’s talking scrap” and “Don’t let BA carve up Concorde”.

Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson said: “This campaign is designed to highlight the tragedy of allowing Concorde to be taken out of service and grounded. Both Air France and British Airways pledged that all the decommissioned Concordes would go to good homes including aviation museums and static displays.”

He continued: “Indeed, BA has gone one further and announced it is keeping one Concorde flying as a result of pressure from the public and ourselves. However, the picture of an Air France Concorde in Germany clearly illustrates the future of many of those aircraft. It is a reality that should not be allowed to happen to BA’s Concordes.”
