Birmingham airport plays down name change
Reports that Birmingham airport could be renamed after Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osboure have been played down by the airport.
The Birmingham Mail reported that a name change was being considered, following in the footsteps of other airports such as Liverpool John Lennon airport and John F Kennedy airport in New York.
Councillor Philip Parkin told the local paper that talks had taken place to honour Black Sabbath but remained open as to whether this would be the airport name.
He said: "I would be interested to know what people thought about that as an idea."
Birmingham airport confirmed that it would be a decision for the airport itself, with a spokesman adding: "We’ve no plans to rename the airport so not quite sure where the story’s come from but we’re certainly not in discussions."
Ozzy Osborne formed Black Sabbath with school friends Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi and Bill Ward who were all from the Aston area of Birmingham.
