Bizarre airport activities range from bullets to bombs

Friday, 13 Mar, 2006 0

Some US airport news recently came from unusual sources: shoe bombs and bullets.

Outbound flights at New York’s LaGuardia Airport were halted for four hours when a male passenger’s shows set off an alarm when checked for explosives.

The man put on his shoes and left, officials said, offering no explanation why he was not stopped.

The building was evacuated and outbound flights held up in what authorities said was a “misunderstanding.”

No one had an explanation either for a .22-calibre bullet that delayed an Alaska Airlines flight from Seattle to San Francisco.

The bullet was discovered in the passenger cabin by a federal air marshal.

A spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration said it was fairly unusual to find bullets on airplanes.
