Blackpool Pleasure Beach ignores watchdog ruling

Friday, 14 Nov, 2013 0

Blackpool Pleasure Beach appears to have ignored an order by advertising watchdogs to amend its price claims after it found the company guilty of misleading customers.

The Advertising Standards Authority was asked to investigate a claim made on blackpoolpleasurebeach.com that customers who book online for the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Attraction can save money.

It states on its website that "Normal admission prices are £12 adults and £6 children/OAPs/Students. Discounts available online."

However, a customer complained to the ASA after he was told at the attraction that the normal price was £6 per person.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach told the ASA it offered promotional discounts from time to time and the complainant was offered such a discount, however the ASA said there was no evidence that the normal admission fee was £12.

It told Blackpool Pleasure Beach the ad must not appear again in its current form and to ensure it was able to substantiate future price claims.

Despite the ruling, blackpoolpleasurebeach.com continues to claim that the normal admission price for Ripley’s is £12 for adults.
